Understand NYC Regulatory Management for Local Laws

8.1. Semi-Annual Inspection

Overview

A comprehensive inspection mandated by NFPA standards and codes.

8.1.1. Scheduling

To be scheduled with your service provider prior every six months.

8.1.2. Inspection

Performing the semi-annual fire alarm inspections will reduce the number of false alarms, as well as extend the lifespan of your fire alarm system but also determine the status of the system by performing a visual and mechanical test. The owner shall be responsible, at all times, for the safe maintenance of their file alarm. Anything that needs to be fixed is the responsibility of the owner.

Semi-Annual or every 6 months fire alarm tests and inspections will include visual, physical and mechanical tests and inspections of all installed fire protection systems including fire sprinklers, fire alarms, fire suppression systems and portable fire extinguishers. The frequency for semi-annual (6 months) tests and inspections for installed fire alarm systems and their components, equipment & devices is detailed in NFPA standards and codes, local fire departments and/or Fire Marshall's office and your city municipality’s health, building and fire codes.
