2.1. Pressure Relief Valve Annual Inspection

Overview

A relief valve or pressure relief valve (PRV) is a type of safety valve used to control or limit the pressure in a system; pressure might otherwise build up and create a process upset, equipment failure, or even a fire. This inspection is only required on Low Pressure Boilers, including those in buildings with six or more apartments.

2.1.1. Scheduling

The annual inspection is monitored by the Department of Building (DOB). The inspection should be scheduled no later than 3 months before the end of the year with a Licensed Master Plumber (LMP).

2.1.2. Inspection

The annual boiler inspection shall include the connection to the chimney and fuel oil tank. The pressure refief valve must be piped down; unthreaded end not directly connected to house drainage or vent lines.

It is the purpose and intent of the inspection to require that a boiler shall be of such quality throughout and shall have such protective and control devices and shall be maintained and operated as to provide practical assurance against its being or becoming defective.

2.1.3. Filing

The inspection report must be filed within 45 days of inspection. If the inspection failed, you have 180 days to correct all deficiencies reported.
