12.1. Domestic Gravity Tank

Overview

The purpose with a domestic service water supply system is to provide building residents with enough hot and cold water. In older buildings, it is common with gravity storage tanks to be located on the top floor of the building. More commonly used in new systems are pressurized tanks and supply pumps. 

12.1.1. Scheduling

To be scheduled with the gravity tank maintenance company, advised no later than three (3) months before the end of the year. We advise scheduling your annual cleaning along with your annual inspection. 

12.1.2. Inspection

Before the arrival of the technician, the gravity tank must be drained. This process is typically 3-4 hours. Water tanks must be inspected by a qualified inspector, who then submits the results to the Health Department. To be qualified, an inspector must meet one of the following conditions: 

12.1.3. Filing

The report is filed online with the DOHMH by the licensed professional by January 15 of the next calendar year. Building owners must make residents aware of their rights to review inspection results by posting notification signs in the building with contact information. Building owners must keep inspection results and water quality test results for at least five (5) years.
